BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent has shared the emotional reason behind her decision to join the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special following her recent marriage split. Sally, 52, was one of the first three celebrities to be confirmed for the festive edition of the popular dance competition. She will be partnered with professional dancer Graziano Di Prima for the special.

A fresh start on the dance floor

Sally took to social media to share a series of photos with Graziano from the Strictly set. In the caption, she revealed that she was in need of a pick-me-up when the Strictly team reached out to her. "They kindly suggested I might like to learn to dance with @grazianodiprima in time for Christmas," she wrote. Despite admitting she is "definitely not a dancer," Sally expressed her determination to give it her best shot and praised Graziano as the perfect partner.

Overcoming personal challenges

Sally's decision to join Strictly comes after a challenging few months following the revelation of her marriage split from husband Gavin Hawthorn in May. The couple had been together for 13 years and have a teenage son. While the split was said to be amicable, reports at the time indicated that Sally was devastated by the news.

More celebrities to be announced

In addition to Sally, historian Dan Snow and EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick have also been confirmed for the Strictly Christmas Special. The remaining three celebrity contestants will be announced later today.
