Strictly star Layton Williams has responded to criticism of his pole dancing routine on the show, after ending up in the bottom two the following week.

Pushing the boundaries

Layton defended his routine, saying, "I feel like we've always come out and kind of like done something potentially a little bit more out there pushing the boundaries, we've thrown in this and that, and there's always an element of surprise. Why shouldn't we be swinging from poles and living our best lives? It went down pretty well if you ask me so I'm really proud and I stand by it, it's also a couple's choice. Get into it."

Widely praised

The dance to Ain't No Other Man by Christina Aguilera with Nikita Kuzmin earned Layton and Nikita a judges' score of 39 out of a potential 40 points and was widely praised on the night. Nikita added, "At the end of the day, we're just two boys dancing together and we are having fun, we're trying to bring a show, and well, if somebody doesn't like this, it's absolutely fine."

In the bottom two

Last weekend, Layton and Nikita found themselves in the bottom two, despite being one of the favorites throughout the competition. They went up against Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu in the dreaded dance off.

Save and controversy

Judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke chose to save Layton after they re-performed an American Smooth routine. However, head judge Shirley Ballas opted for Angela's cha cha routine. In the end, it was Angela who got sent home.

Not feuding

Layton insisted that he is not feuding with Shirley Ballas, despite her comments.
