GEOGUESSR is a popular online game where it tests players ability to guess where they are in the world from one street alone.

The game is big on the likes of TikTok and YouTube, where content creators film themselves playing.

GeoGuessr uses the Street View API from Google Maps, as well as the map itself for the guessing window

Some content creators have made names for themselves for being incredibly accurate at guessing the random place they’ve been flung to, such as YouTuber Rainbolt.

It’s great educational pass-time, but unfortunately you have to pay for the full experience.

Is there a free version of GeoGuessr?

GeoGuessr does offer a free version, but it is limited in terms of its features.

It only offers a 2D panorama view instead of the classic 360-degree Google Streetview which made it so popular.

The free version also has just one map.

While the Pro edition, which costs £1.99 a month, has thousands of map options.

Why is GeoGuessr no longer free?

GeoGuessr uses the Street View API from Google Maps, as well as the map itself for the guessing window.

It must pay Google for the use of both of these.

This meant GeoGuessr had to limit the free experience to encourage users to switch to Pro to cover these costs.
