Veronica Taylor Opens Up
Pokémon fans were left stunned earlier this year when it was announced that Ash Ketchum, the beloved protagonist of the long-running series, would be retiring. After 25 years of thrilling battles, Ash decided to call it quits while he was still on top. However, what many fans may not know is the story behind the departure of Ash's original voice actor, Veronica Taylor.
A Sudden Departure
In 2006, after eight seasons of voicing Ash, Veronica Taylor and the rest of the voice cast found themselves without jobs. The ninth season of the show returned with an entirely new set of voice actors, leaving fans wondering what happened to the familiar voices they had grown to love.
An Exclusive Interview
We had the opportunity to sit down with Veronica Taylor and discuss her experience with Pokémon and the shocking decision to replace the original voice cast. Taylor revealed that Pokémon USA, the company in charge at the time, decided not to renew the contract with 4Kids and instead found new voice actors. Taylor and the rest of the cast were informed that their services were no longer needed, leaving them devastated.
A Lack of Explanation
When asked about the reason behind the decision, Taylor admitted that she was still in the dark. Pokémon USA simply made the call and provided no explanation to the original voice cast. The sudden change left many fans saddened, as the voices they had grown accustomed to were abruptly replaced.
A Love for Pokémon
Despite the negative experience, Veronica Taylor's love for the Pokémon series remains strong. She expressed her desire to have continued voicing Ash and would have stayed with the show indefinitely if given the opportunity. Taylor even mentioned that she would gladly return to the series if asked.
