Hogwarts Legacy: How to upgrade your gear

IN Hogwarts Legacy, what gear you carry plays a big role in determining what kinds of enemies you’re able to defeat.

As it levels up, so does your HP, defensive and offensive stats.

Here are some of the traits you can add.

Switching out your current gear for better stuff you find along the way can work just fine, but upgrading it can earn you quick boosts.

Here’s everything you need to know about upgrading your gear in Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy: How to use the loom

As you progress through the main story, you’ll be given access to the loom.

This can be placed in the Room of Requirement, which you can do as soon as a button prompts you to.

You will need to gather materials from beasts in order to upgrade and add traits to your gear, so make sure you keep your Vivarium full.

All the available beasts in Hogwarts Legacy are listed in our guide.

Hogwarts Legacy: How to upgrade your gear

As a default, each type of gear will only increase one of your stats, but you can alter this by using your loom.

Gloves, scarves and robes increase your offensive stats, while facewear, hats and outfits increase your defensive stats.

When you upgrade your gear at the loom, it will also add a boost to the other stat.

For example, if you upgrade your gloves, you will receive a buff to your defence.

You can upgrade each piece of gear multiple times, but it will require more materials each time you do so.

However, it will also improve your stats by a greater amount also. This means that upgraded gear can often be more powerful than gear you find lying around.

Hogwarts Legacy: How to add traits to gear

Traits don’t boost your stats but instead add a special bonus to each piece of gear.

This could reduce damage from a certain type of enemy, or increase damage from a certain kind of spell.

Individually they don’t provide much of a boost, but if all of your gear has complimentary traits, you will see a big difference.

Traits come in three tiers, and the gear’s rarity determines which tier can be applied:

  • Common – No traits
  • Rare – Tier 1 traits
  • Epic – Tier 2 or lower traits
  • Legendary – Tier 3 or lower traits

Before you can apply a certain trait, you will need to discover it.

This can often be done by picking up new gear that comes with a trait already attached to it.

However, further traits can be discovered by completing the challenges set out for you in your field guide.

Once you’ve unlocked the traits you want, applying them is a matter of going through the list and paying the resources:

  • Tier 1 trait – Puffskein Fur
  • Tier 2 trait – Diricawl Feather
  • Tier 3 trait – Kneazle Fur
