A Missed Opportunity: Netflix Gaming Section Largely Ignored

Netflix, the world's leading streaming service with over 250 million subscribers, offers a wide range of entertainment options. While it is best known for its extensive collection of films and TV shows, one of its best perks remains largely untapped.

Less than 1% of Netflix users take advantage of the platform's gaming section, which boasts nearly 100 games that are free for all subscribers. Despite acquiring gaming studios like Night School Studios, which developed exclusive titles such as Oxenfree 2, Netflix's gaming library has failed to gain traction.

A recent report by CNBC reveals that only 2.2 million Netflix users play games from the platform's library on a daily basis. While more than 70 million subscribers have downloaded a game at some point, they do not tend to return for more.

The Games You're Missing Out On

Netflix offers a variety of award-winning games, including Immortality, Kentucky Route Zero, and Before Your Eyes. These games can be downloaded to mobile devices and played at no additional cost to subscribers.

Co-CEO of Netflix, Greg Peterson, expressed the company's vision of building a long-term center of entertainment value. However, subscribers have not embraced this vision, leading to a lack of engagement with the gaming section.

Bridging the Gap: How to Unlock Netflix's Gaming Potential

It is believed that many users are simply unaware of the games available on Netflix or are uncertain about which ones are worth playing. Unlike films or TV shows, games require a download and a larger time commitment, making it more challenging for users to give them a try.

If Netflix can find a way to bridge this gap, more users may be enticed to explore gaming as part of their subscription. With the recent release of games like Squid Game and Black Mirror-based titles, there is a clear opportunity for Netflix to tap into the existing crossover between TV and movie watchers and gaming enthusiasts.
