Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, originally released in 2004, is a role-playing game that features a unique paper cut-out version of Mario exploring worlds crafted from paper. The game is widely considered the best in the Paper Mario series, and fans have been eagerly awaiting news of a remake. The Paper Mario TTYD remake will retain the original crafty paper art style but with visual improvements. It is set to release sometime in 2024.
Old-School Tomb Raider Games Get the Remaster Treatment
In addition to the Paper Mario remake, Nintendo also announced that the old-school Tomb Raider games from the '90s will be getting a remastered version. Fans of the nostalgic Lara Croft franchise will be able to enjoy improved visuals while still being able to switch between the new remastered looks and the classic graphics. Fans of the F-Zero racing series were treated to a surprise with the announcement of a new game, F-Zero 99, the first in almost 20 years. The game is available now and is completely free for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. F-Zero 99 follows the popular battle royale format, pitting 99 players against each other in a race. The last player standing at the end of the race is crowned the winner. While it may not be the fully-fledged new entry that fans were hoping for, it's still a welcome addition to the series.
Princess Peach Takes the Spotlight in Her Own Game
Princess Peach fans also have something to look forward to with the announcement of Princess Peach: Showtime! This new game allows players to experience Peach's very own adventure, where she doesn't need saving. Along her solo story, Princess Peach will take on different roles with various abilities, from wielding a sword to investigating clues and even becoming a pastry chef. The game is set to release on March 22, 2024.
Other Announcements and Release Dates
Alongside these exciting remakes and new game announcements, Nintendo also revealed a number of other titles coming soon. These include a new Mario vs. Donkey Kong game, an HD remaster of Luigi's Mansion 2, and the arrival of the popular PC game Dave the Diver on Nintendo Switch. Additionally, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is set to release on January 18, 2024, and the Nintendo Direct confirmed that it lives up to expectations.
