Nintendo fans are in for a treat as rumors of a new console, Nintendo Switch 2, have been circulating. Although nothing has been officially announced, there have been reports of dev kits being distributed to key developers.

What is a Dev Kit?

A dev kit is a piece of hardware that allows developers to run games in the same way the console would. It usually has different features and may not resemble the final console.

Given the typical cycle between developer kits and launch, it is highly likely that the Switch 2 will hit the shelves before the end of 2024, aligning with Nintendo's reported profits for the Fiscal Year 2025.

Completed Switch 2 Consoles at Gamescom 2023

According to a report by Eurogamer, completed Switch 2 consoles were showcased to developers at Gamescom 2023. Developers were given the chance to try out a tech demo of "Breath of the Wild" running on the upgraded hardware. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that the game will be relaunched on the Switch 2, as existing games are often used to showcase new hardware.

Impressive Demo of Upcoming Matrix Game

Further supporting the speculation, VGC reports that the upcoming Matrix game was also demoed on the Switch 2 console and appeared to run smoothly. This is particularly impressive considering the hyper-realistic graphics that wowed fans when the footage was shown last year.

These reports coincide with similar stories that GLHF has heard from sources.

Nintendo is said to be aiming for a price point of £349 ($399) for the Switch 2, making it a more powerful and beefier system than its predecessor.
