Emulator Team Settles with Nintendo

An emulator app called Yuzu has been shut down, and its developers, Tropic Haze, will pay Nintendo $2.4 million (£1.9 million) after a court case was filed against them. The team behind the Nintendo Switch emulator Yuzu has decided to settle with Nintendo rather than take the case to court.

Allegations of Circumventing Technological Measures

The case revolves around the allegation that Yuzu circumvented technological measures implemented by Nintendo on the Switch by decrypting Nintendo Switch software during runtime. This would enable users to pirate Nintendo Switch games rather than purchasing them to play on the console.

Settlement Terms

As part of the settlement, Yuzu will shut down, and Tropic Haze will no longer be able to develop or distribute the source code. The team was also behind Citra, a popular 3DS emulator, which has also been shut down.

Nintendo's Statement

In a statement, the Yuzu team expressed their disappointment in the misuse of their software for piracy. They emphasized that their projects were started out of passion for Nintendo and its games and were not meant to facilitate piracy.
