THE Masked Singer fans claim they’ve figured out the identity of Cat and Mouse – insisting they’re married 80s pop legends.
The pair took to the stage in week one of the ITV show with the song Anything You Can I Do (I Can Do Better) by Irving Berlin with a performance packed full of clues.
Before singing they told the panel that “they are no stranger to legalities and get right to the case.”
They also said they know how to spin out a tale, and they had five different jars of spices lined up on stage.
Fans said the clues pointed to them being Martin and Shirlie Kemp.
The couple shot to fame in the 80s with Martin playing bass in Spandau Ballet and Shirlie as a backing singer for Wham!.
But remembering that Martin also had an acting career and played EastEnders villain Steve Owen, one fan said on Reddit: “There was a picture of Queen Victoria, so that could be your Eastenders reference.”
Another claimed they spotted a reference to his pop star credentials and Spandau Ballet.
They penned: “Yer, this one was easy.
“The first thing mouse did was steal the cheese, SB has a song called steal.
“‘No stranger to legalities’ would be a judge. Martin has been a judge on many things like Let It Shine.”
The theory gained momentum and more fans piled in, with another pointing to a Spice Girls reference.
They typed: “Also Shirley was a back up singer for Ginger Spice’s song Bag It Up (another Spice Girls link).”
And finally Cat and Mouse’s song written by Irving Berlin was apparently another obvious hint.
They said: “I hoped for a Berlin nod as a reference to Spandau Prison in Berlin.”
It comes as football pundit and presenter Chris Kamara was the first character to be unmasked on the new series of ITV1’s reality singing contest The Masked Singer on Sunday.
Six masked celebrities – Knitting, Jellyfish, Otter, Ghost, Cat and Mouse, and Phoenix – featured in the new episode, but Chris’s Ghost was the first to be unmasked.
Chris, who recently spoke out about his difficulties with the speech disorder apraxia, said he kept his role in the show a secret to surprise his family.
He said: “I can’t wait to see their reactions.
“My grandkids, we’ll sit around together and they’ll have no idea. They love this show.
“They just sing ‘take it off’ and grandad’s going to turn around.”
Next Saturday the remaining characters – Fawn, Jacket Potato, Piece of Cake, Pigeon, Rhino and Rubbish – will be taking to the stage to sing in disguise and try to stump the panel and viewers.
