They say heavy snow is likely to cause significant disruption on this morning.

It means Brits should try to avoid any unnecessary travel – and the warnings last until midday tomorrow.

Forecasters warn: “Heavy snow is likely to cause significant disruption on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.

“Strong easterly winds are expected to accompany this snow, leading to blizzards and drifting of lying snow.”

Shocking video and photos show hundreds of cars that have been trapped on the M62 since 1am this morning.

Freezing conditions brought the vehicles to a standstill – and the traffic is only set to get worse as people wake up this morning across the country.

One driver told Sky News she has been stuck in the traffic for six hours.

She said: : “I would say there are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of cars. It goes back for 16 miles I think in one way.

“We’ve been trying to keep ourselves as awake as possible and trying not to think about going to the toilet or have a drink.

“Once we get out of this we still have a long journey ahead of us back to Lincoln.”
