BRITS are set to shiver in just days as an Arctic blast brings frosty sub-zero temperatures.
The Arctic front is set to hit on Monday – which could lead to the coldest temperatures of the year so far.
Temperatures have dropped to 0.0C in Northern parts of Scotland last night
Heavy rainfall is expected to hit the South East on Friday
The lowest temperature of the season so far was -1.7C at Shap, Cumbria on September 17.
And last night, temperatures already dropped to as low as 0.0C in parts of Aberdeenshire and could fall as low as -4C in remote areas early next week.
Higher places in Northern Scotland could see snowflakes at the start of next week as temperatures are set to drop amid icy winds.
Moving further south, Northern England and parts of Scotland are predicted to experience heavy rainfall.
Heavy showers are also expected in the South East on Friday and scattered showers across the rest of the UK.
However, some bright skies are forecast for Southern England, which due to remain dry and bright in the early part of next week with temperatures likely to hit a high of 20C.
In Ireland, Met Éireann’s indicated temperatures could swing as low as 3C at night time.
Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said: “Across the UK temperatures are going to be below average for the second half of the weekend and into Monday as well as Tuesday.”
With cold air heading south from Iceland Mr McGivern said a “cold plunge” was on its way.
He said it would be “most likely the coldest air of the season so far.”
Mr McGivern added: “It’s certainly going to feel cold first thing with a touch of frost in the North and chilly winds.”
The lowest temperature of the season so far was -1.7C at Shap, Cumbria on September 17.
Aboyne, Aberdeenshire saw the coldest temperature of the year at -9.1C on March 2.
