THE PM last night stood by a massive £150 billion commitment on military spending after being hit by resignation threats.

Liz Truss will stick to a cash boost of 3 per cent of national income by 2030 after Armed Forces Minister James Heappey publicly vowed to walk out of his job.

Suspicion had also been mounting that Defence Secretary Ben Wallace might have been prepared to leave office if the cash vow wasn’t honoured.

A defence source last night said: “Current world events, and allies’ commitments, show that defence is not a discretionary spend but a priority.”

But a row is still looming as Downing Street hinted at slower rises ahead of the end of the decade.

It also included 2.5 per cent by 2026 – as the “shape” of it is yet to be agreed.
