DELIVERY drivers and postal workers have their work cut out right now.
So to say thank you, I have started leaving little treats for them outside my door.
Here are some suggestions in case you fancy doing the same . . .
Refreshing idea: On a hot day, there’s nothing more welcome than a cold drink. But don’t leave out bottles of water.
Highland Spring’s 12-pack of 500ml bottles costs £3 at Tesco. Instead, fill a jug with tap water and ice and pop it on a tray with Asda’s party cups, £1 for 15. Keep the tray in the shade and place a bin next to it to make sure used ones are thrown away and nobody drinks from the same cup.
SAVE: £2
Sweet deal: For something more fun, I put sweets in a bowl outside my door. To keep things hygienic, I always use individually wrapped sweets. Sainsbury’s is currently selling Maoam Stripes, Joystix and MaoMix for £1, down from £1.30.
SAVE: 30p
Smart cookie: I’m currently addicted to three-ingredient peanut butter biscuits, made from peanut butter, golden caster sugar and an egg. They are a great treat to offer round — and not too hard to make. If you’ve got the ingredients lying around, you will save around £1 on buying a packet.
SAVE: Around £1
Have your cake: I’ve ordered in Tesco’s chocolate fudge cake kit, £1.70, which I will cut up into around 15 pieces. That’s way more cost-effective than buying three five-packs of Cadbury’s cake bars, £1.60 each.
