TAKEAWAY drinks are back on the menu. I have treated myself to a few frappuccinos and milkshakes to celebrate.
But they are not cheap.
Luckily, you can knock up the same drinks at home for a fraction of the price. Here is how . . .
THAT’S A FRAP: I can’t wait to try this take on a Starbucks frappuccino from TikTok’s @caughtsnackin. Put ice, two shots of espresso, a cup of milk, 1tbsp chocolate sauce and 2tbsp sugar in a blender and mix. Top with squirty cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce.
SAVE: Around £3.20 per drink
SHAKE IT: If you can’t face queuing at McDonald’s, whip up your own milkshake. Combine two cups of vanilla ice cream and 1¼ cups of milk with sugar or chocolate/banana/strawberry Nesquik. Put the ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth.
SAVE: £1.99 per drink
ICE, ICE BABY: Missing Tango Ice Blasts at the cinema? Take any ice lollies you have, crush them and pop into a blender with a glass of Tango. Any flavour will work. Sainsbury’s has two-litre bottles of Tango Orange and Strawberry & Watermelon for £1.25, down from £1.65.
SAVE: 40p per drink
SUPER SLUSH: Treat your kids to DIY Slush Puppies. Pour sugar and water into a bowl, mix in flavouring and food colouring then freeze for three hours, stirring every 30 minutes. If you make them regularly, you may want to invest in a machine. The cheapest I have found is £39.99 at Ryman. Robert Dyas currently has syrup for £2.99, down from £4.99.
SAVE: £2 on syrup
TIME FOR TEA: You would spend around £2.65 on iced tea at Costa but it is one of easiest drinks to make in your kitchen. Pop four herbal teabags into a 1-litre jug, fill halfway with boiled water, brew, add cold water and top with ice and fruit.
