GREG Rutherford showed off a massive bruise as his training started to take its toll ahead of Dancing On Ice this week.

The sports star, 37, will be making history this weekend as he performs a never before seen trick on the ice – and he’s been practising like crazy.

Sharing a snap of his injury, Greg told fans: “The bruise is developing nicely”.

He then gave a sneak peek at his impressive routine with pro partner Vanessa James.

Vanessa posted a clip of them and wrote: “So we just made a bit of Dancing On Ice history”.

He shared it and added: “This is the first ever double twist on ice by a contestant and pro.”

The Olympian previously admitted he was worried about skating with Vanessa, saying: “I panic about hurting her. I’m a tall guy, there’s a long way for her to fall.”

Greg has been left battered and bruised during the competition and just a couple of weeks ago was left struggling with he pulled his groin during training.

He admitted at the time that he was worried his body could let him down in the competition, after he was forced to retire in 2017 due to injuries, which can recur from time to time.

He said: “My body isn’t what it once was anyway.

“And I had to retire due to injuries anyway. So it’s very tough.”

Asked if it concerned him for the competition, he  replied: “A little bit, yeah we’ll see, we’re having to push through to this weekend, I’m 100% going to be fine for the weekend.

“I just hope it doesn’t get any worse. If it doesn’t get any worse I’ll be fine.”

Last week Greg and his partner Vanessa transported viewers back to the 1990s in coordinated all-white outfits as they danced to Bye Bye Bye by Nsync.

They also secured a score of 38, with Oti Mabuse praising them for being “daring” with their moves, which included a challenging side levitation lift.
