The ITV show’s medic appeared on-screen to break the news that Greg had sustained an injury from a “really bad accident” during rehearsals.

But now Greg has shared an update with fans after leaving hospital.

Tucked up in bed, a shirtless Greg wrote: “Recovery sort of starts now… after a pretty rough first night, I’m looking forward to getting everything sorted and sewn up so I can get back to normal.

“Thank you all so much for your kind messages,” he added with a love heart emoji.

He’s still not revealed any details on the injury that forced him to quit the show.

On Sunday night just hours after Greg’s dramatic news, his partner Susie updated worried fans on her Instagram story.

Posting a photo of Greg in his hospital bed, she wrote, “Not quite how @gregjrutherford anticipated spending today.

“Thank you for all your kind messages.”

Susie added alongside a video, “Resus is never a fun place to be is it. There’s a lot of screaming ? (Not from Greg).”

Just hours after his accident, Greg posted a video from a hospital bed, where he was hooked up to machines.

He thanked his fans for sending him messages, saying that he was ‘inundated’ with support.

“But my message is for the three incredible finalists who are going to be skating shortly. Have an incredible night, guys.

“I’ve absolutely loved every minute of this journey with you, I’m devastated I can’t be with you tonight.

“I’ve loved watching all your showcases develop, it’s going to be amazing. I love you all, hopefully I’ll see you soon.”

Former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas won the show alongside his professional partner Amani Fancy.

After he was crowned the winner, he dedicated his trophy to Greg.

“Listen Greg, if you’re watching this at home, this trophy is for you mate,” he said.

He beat Made in Chelsea star Miles Nazaire, 28, and Radio One DJ Adele Roberts, 45, in the tense final.
