The exact nature of what happened to Greg remains unknown, but his co-stars have expressed their concern about him.

After spending the night in hospital, updating Greg’s fans on his progress, Susie suffered another blow.

On the way home she got stuck in traffic on the motorway.

From the passenger seat, she shared a video of a traffic officer’s car with a flashing sign that read: “Don’t pass”.

An officer was also standing in the road to direct traffic.

“and the night gets better,” she wrote on the Story.

On the night of the final, which saw Ryan Thomas lift the trophy, the show’s medic appeared on-screen to break the news that Greg had sustained an injury from a “really bad accident” during rehearsals.

Earlier today Greg updated fans after leaving the hospital.

Tucked up in bed, a shirtless Greg wrote: “Recovery sort of starts now… after a pretty rough first night, I’m looking forward to getting everything sorted and sewn up so I can get back to normal.

“Thank you all so much for your kind messages,” he added with a love heart emoji.

On Sunday night just hours after Greg’s dramatic news, his partner Susie updated worried fans on her Instagram story.

Posting a photo of Greg in his hospital bed, she wrote, “Not quite how @gregjrutherford anticipated spending today.

“Thank you for all your kind messages.”

Susie added alongside a video, “Resus is never a fun place to be is it. There’s a lot of screaming ? (Not from Greg).”

Just hours after his accident, Greg posted a video from a hospital bed, where he was hooked up to machines.

He thanked his fans for sending him messages, saying that he was ‘inundated’ with support.

“But my message is for the three incredible finalists who are going to be skating shortly. Have an incredible night, guys.

“I’ve absolutely loved every minute of this journey with you, I’m devastated I can’t be with you tonight.

“I’ve loved watching all your showcases develop, it’s going to be amazing. I love you all, hopefully I’ll see you soon.”

Former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas won the show alongside his professional partner Amani Fancy.

After he was crowned the winner, he dedicated his trophy to Greg.

“Listen Greg, if you’re watching this at home, this trophy is for you mate,” he said.

He beat Made in Chelsea star Miles Nazaire, 28, and Radio One DJ Adele Roberts, 45, in the tense final.

Ryan was paired with newcomer Amani Fancy on her debut on the UK series, and her thanked her for getting him to the series finale.

The TV star said: “I’m speechless!”

He continued: “I just can’t, it’s Amani, I’m happy for her because she’s put so much hard work in with me.

Speaking about Greg’s injury, an ITV spokesperson said: “Greg and Vanessa have been such a popular couple this series and have performed some truly memorable routines.

“We will be helping to support Greg and wish him well with his recovery. We also want to thank him for being such a treasured member of the Dancing on Ice family,” the broadcaster added.
