UNTIL he stepped down from Radio 1 in 2012, I’m A Celeb star Chris Moyles ruled the airwaves on the station’s breakfast show.

However, he wasn’t alone – with a gang that also comprised producers Aled and Pippa, newsreaders Dom and Tina, and of course his on-air sidekick ‘Comedy Dave’ Vitty.

While some of the gang followed him when he made the move to indie music station Radio X, others struck out on their own.

And, as we prove below, some of them have recently had some big news in their careers and personal lives. Just how many of this lot do you remember?

Radio star Chris is on our screens every night currently, living alongside his pal Boy George on I’m A Celeb.

Before that, he hit then headlines for his remarkable 5st weight loss since quitting Radio 1, where he was the station’s self-proclaimed “saviour”.

Appropriately given the nickname, the 46-year-old presenter appeared in Jesus Christ Superstar before surprising everyone by taking the breakfast show at Radio X.

The station, owned by a company run by his former flatmate Ashley Tabor, was some way down the listenership table to the BBC giant, but has found a wider audience since he arrived.

‘Comedy Dave’ Vitty

Comedy Dave and Chris formed a radio double-act for years

Dave and Chris have long been rumoured to have fallen out, with the pair said to have held separate leaving parties when they left Radio 1.

However, while he didn’t come with Chris to his new station at Radio X, he moved on to commercial radio too after 16 years at Radio 1.

He hosted a show alongside Gemma Arterton on Hits Radio in Manchester and is senior producer at The Content Works, a podcast and video company.

Aled Haydn Jones

Aled Jones was recently announced the the overall boss of Radio 1

Radio 1 listeners were first introduced to Aled as the “tea boy”, even though he quickly emerged as the mastermind of the show behind the scenes. And now he’s running the whole station.

Welsh Aled, 43, was appointed the controller of Radio 1 in the summer of 2020, saying he was “honoured” to get the job.

Many listeners joked that the news left them feeling ancient, with one tweeting: “If you used to listen to Chris Moyles and are of a certain age this will make you feel old.”

Pippa Taylor

Pippa recently announced she was engaged to presenter Toby Tarrant

Producer Pippa was another former Radio 1’er who came over to Radio X with Chris, providing a familiar voice to listeners who made the switch too.

She announced on air that she was married after her boyfriend Toby Tarrant – DJ son of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? legend Chris – got down on one knee.

Pippa, 44, met the 31-year-old at Radio X, where he hosted the show after Moyles, and the engagement was revealed on air.

Tina Daheley

Radio reporter Tina went on to host Crimewatch alongside Jeremy Vine

Newsreader Tina is still reporting the headlines in the morning, but on Zoe Ball’s show, over on the slightly more grown-up BBC Radio 2.

The 41-year-old has also hosted the BBC’s Six and Ten O’Clock News bulletins, fronted Breakfast and for a time was co-host of Crimewatch alongside Jeremy Vine.

Dominic Byrne

Dom has been reunited with old pal Chris on the new station

Newsman Dom, 50, read bulletins on Chris’s Radio 1 show, before doing the same on stations including Capital and LBC.

He moved over to Radio X, which is owned by the same company, when his old pal Chris joined.

Matt Fincham

Matt, seen here with Billie Eilish, is in charge of Radio 1’s music

Producer Matt moved over to work with Nick Grimshaw after his time on Chris’s long-running Radio 1 show.

He put together the programme that would take over Moyles’ breakfast slot and now runs the whole music operation at Radio 1.
