Good News and Job Opportunities

Aldi, the discount supermarket with 1,000 stores, has confirmed that its Sheerness town centre location in Kent will be closing. However, it has also announced the opening of a new £9 million store in Neats Court, Queenborough. The new branch, set to welcome its first customers in April 2024, will be a third larger than the existing premises and will provide 134 parking spaces – 59 more than the Sheerness store.

New Complex and Improved Facilities

The new multi-million pound complex, located opposite the Queenborough retail park, will also feature new cycle and pedestrian links. The closure of the Sheerness store will make way for Home Bargains to take its place. Up to 40 new jobs will be created by the new Aldi store, and 30 staff members from the Sheerness store will be transferred over to the new location.

Expansion Plans and Priority Locations

Aldi's decision to open the new Neats Court store is part of its £1.4 billion expansion plans. The retailer has identified 22 "priority" locations where it aims to open new stores. This move is in line with Aldi's goal of increasing its store portfolio to 1,500. The company is targeting 11 regions across the UK, including London, East Anglia, Scotland, the East Midlands, and the North West.

Looking for Suitable Sites

Aldi is seeking sites both inside and outside town centres, as well as in retail parks, that can accommodate a 20,000 square foot store with around 100 parking spaces. George Brown, the real estate director at Aldi UK, expressed confidence in the company's continued success and its ability to meet the growing demand for its affordable groceries.
