What to Buy

Black Friday is here, and with it comes a plethora of discounted products. But don't worry, we've got you covered. We spoke to Dan Evans, editor at HotUKDeals, to find out the top five items worth buying this Black Friday. Here's what he recommends:

Ring

Ring, owned by Amazon, is known for its range of smart home products. This Black Friday, you can find great deals on their doorbells and indoor cameras. For example, a two-pack indoor camera is on sale for £55 instead of £100, and a video doorbell is available for £50 instead of £100 – that's up to 50% off! According to Dan, "Ring doorbells are a luxury purchase for most households, but they do periodically have really solid sales to make them more affordable."

Lego

Attention parents and grandparents! Lego sets are worth keeping an eye out for this Black Friday. The brand usually offers big discounts on its larger and more expensive sets. For instance, you can get the Star Wars Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder set for £140 instead of £210 – a 33% discount. And at Argos, the Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle Toy set is available for £328 instead of £410 – that's 20% off. Dan suggests doing your research to find brilliant deals on specific Lego sets.

Shark

Shark's products are always in demand, and Black Friday is the perfect time to snag them at a lower price. You can save money compared to buying a similar model from Dyson. For example, a Deluxe Black Anti-hair wrap vacuum is on sale for £170 instead of £270, and a Pet Stain and Spot Cleaner is available for £125 instead of £170 – that's 38% and 27% off, respectively. According to Dan, "Shark products are deemed by a lot of our community to be on par with Dyson but for a better price."

Video Games and Consoles

If you're a gamer, keep an eye out for deals on PS5's, Xbox's, and Switch Bundles. This year, Dan and his team have spotted some of the cheapest ever prices on these consoles. While most retailers offer similar prices, you can save some extra cash on delivery fees. Dan advises, "When it's a battle of the last few pounds, check out which has the best deal on delivery as there are some big variations."

Fashion

With retail sales falling in October, it's likely that there will be some hefty discounts on autumn fashion items. Dan suggests looking out for big discounts on coats from higher-end brands. "Now is the time to invest in one of the higher end brands at more high street prices," he said.

What to Avoid

While there are plenty of great deals to be found this Black Friday, there are also some items you should avoid purchasing. Here's what Dan recommends staying away from:

Christmas Trees and Decorations

Don't be tempted by Christmas-themed products just yet. Retailers won't start slashing prices on Christmas stock until December, so it's best to wait. The same goes for sweet treats like Christmas chocolate. Dan advises, "Nothing before December will be the best deal."

Perfume and Aftershave

If you're planning to buy perfume or aftershave as a gift, it's better to wait until closer to Christmas. Dan suggests being cautious when it comes to gift sets. "It's worth checking the price of the gift set against the bottles individually," he said. "The recipient would likely be happier with a bigger bottle for the same budget."

So there you have it, the must-have Black Friday deals and what to avoid. Remember to shop around for the best prices and only buy something if you were planning to purchase it anyway. Happy shopping!
