Several former Wilko stores across the UK have been transformed into Poundland stores, providing a glimmer of hope for struggling high streets. After the closure of all Wilko stores earlier this month, Poundland stepped in and purchased a total of 71 sites, with nine of them opening their doors to customers on Saturday. These new Poundland stores will not only offer the usual range of products but also include a selection of Wilko items that were not sold during the closing-down sales. Poundland plans to fully refurbish these stores by 2024.

New Poundland Stores Opened in Nine Locations

Poundland has successfully reopened former Wilko stores in various locations across the UK, providing shoppers with more options for affordable goods. On Saturday, nine former Wilko shops transformed into Poundlands and opened in the following locations:

  • The Bay Tree Centre, Brentwood
  • George Street, Stamford Quarter, Altrincham
  • The Priory Centre, Worksop
  • The Broadway, West Ealing
  • High Road, Wembley
  • Town Square, Six Acre Shopping Centre, Sale
  • Byron Place, Seaham, Durham
  • Selly Oak Shopping Park, Selly Oak, Birmingham
  • Jackson Square, Bishops Stortford

Additionally, Poundland has already reopened 28 former Wilko stores since September 30. These stores are part of Poundland's commitment to revitalize struggling high streets and provide employment opportunities.

Poundland's Efforts in Reopening Wilko Stores

Poundland's retail director, Darren Kay, expressed pride in the company's successful re-opening of former Wilko stores and the job opportunities it has provided. In just four weeks, Poundland has opened a total of 37 Wilko stores, a remarkable achievement for the company. Kay thanked the hardworking colleagues who made this possible and assured customers that while more extensive refurbishments are planned for the new year, the new Poundland stores are ready to welcome both old and new customers.

Expansion Plans and New Store Opening

Poundland is not only focused on reopening former Wilko stores but also expanding its presence. In addition to the nine recently opened Poundland stores, the company has also opened a brand new store at Queens Retail Park in Stafford. This new store will offer a wide range of products and create 15 new job opportunities. Poundland aims to open all the former Wilko stores it purchased by the end of 2023, further solidifying its commitment to supporting struggling high streets.
