The government claims that this practice is "widespread" in sectors such as food deliveries and train tickets, and costs consumers around £1.6 billion each year.

Business and trade minister Kevin Hollinrake stated, "Today’s measures will help people keep hold of their hard-earned cash and ensure they have the clearest and most accurate information upfront before they make a purchase."
