EDF, one of the largest energy suppliers, has launched a scheme to provide massive discounts on electricity bills for thousands of struggling customers. The Warm Home Discount scheme aims to help customers during the cold winter months.

What is the Warm Home Discount scheme?

Under this government-led scheme, EDF will give eligible customers a one-off payment of £150 by the end of March 2024. The rebate will be applied as a credit to the energy account, a top-up voucher for prepayment meters, applied directly to a Smart Pay As You Go meter, or by cheque.

Who is eligible for the scheme?

The scheme is open to households in Scotland that receive their current domestic electricity supply from EDF and continue to do so until the rebate is paid. The EDF electricity account holder living at the property must meet the qualification criteria.

More details about eligibility can be found on EDF's website.

How does the scheme work?

The Warm Home Discount scheme consists of three core groups:

  • Core Group 1: Eligible customers in receipt of Guarantee Pension Credit will receive their rebate automatically from the supplier.
  • Core Group 2: Eligible customers living in England and Wales will automatically receive the rebate without needing to apply.
  • Scotland: Customers in Scotland who are not eligible for Core Group 1 will need to apply each year to benefit from the scheme.

If you have a credit meter, the rebate will be credited directly to your account and will reflect on your next bill. Prepayment customers will receive a voucher in the post with instructions on redeeming it at a nearby Post Office. Pay As You Go customers will have the rebate credited directly to their electricity meter.
