Concerts Preferred Over Theatre Shows

A recent poll of 2,000 adults who attend live events has revealed that live gigs are the top occasions adults choose to spend their money on. The study found that 63% of respondents prefer concerts, while only 14% prefer theatre shows.

Music Scene Crucial for City Dwellers

The research also highlighted the significance of live shows for city dwellers, with 80% of respondents stating that the music scene is a very important factor for living in any city. Additionally, 88% said that live music experiences positively impact their mental health.

Ride for Music Campaign Supports Live Music

In support of the future of live music, mobility super app FREENOW has launched the 'Ride for Music' campaign. The app will donate £1 per ride to the Music Venue Trust, a charity supporting grassroots music venues. Passengers can opt-in to make the donation at no extra cost.

Ed Sheeran Voices Support for Music Venues

Ed Sheeran, a renowned musician, has expressed his support for the campaign. He stated, "Like so many musicians, I started out playing in grassroots music venues. They are such a vital part of the music ecosystem. Without them, I definitely would not have had the chance to hone my craft and become the artist I am today."

Cost of Living Crisis Impacts Live Events

According to the study, 68% of respondents have been affected by the cost of living crisis, which has limited the number of live events they have attended this year. The Music Venue Trust's latest report predicts that 16% of grassroots music venues will close by the end of 2023.

Discovering New Music and Intimate Shows

The research also found that 84% of respondents enjoy discovering new music through the gigs they attend. Additionally, almost two-thirds of respondents prefer a feeling of intimacy in the shows they attend, opting for smaller venues over larger ones.

Ride for Music Initiative Supports Grassroots Venues

Mark Davyd, founder and CEO of Music Venue Trust, praised FREENOW's Ride for Music initiative, stating that it gives every music fan in the UK the opportunity to directly support grassroots music venues. The campaign aims to prevent venue closures and support artists, crew, and staff.
