Welcome to the Outer Hebrides

Residents of the Outer Hebrides, known as the 'luckiest island in Britain,' have struck gold yet again, winning a staggering £3.4 million in just three years. However, they now face the dilemma of not knowing how to spend their newfound wealth.

Continuing the winning streak

The Outer Hebrides, located in Scotland, have certainly lived up to their reputation as the 'lucky islands' with another big win. Fifteen residents on the island of Benbecula recently shared a windfall of £20,000, marking the region's 13th People's Postcode Lottery prize.

A lucky streak worth £3.4m

The recent win brings the total amount won by residents in the Outer Hebrides to an impressive £3.4 million over the course of just three years. In 2020 alone, two islanders scooped £193,055 each when a £3 million jackpot landed in Berneray and North Uist.

A reluctance to spend

Pamela Macaskill, a 46-year-old resident of Benbecula, had three jobs when she received a cheque for £193,055. She admitted, "We are not materialistic. If you have never had much money, there is a massive reluctance, on my part, to spend it." Despite their newfound wealth, many residents are choosing to hold onto their savings.

Tight-knit community

The Outer Hebrides is known for its close-knit community, where everyone knows everyone. Pamela Macaskill reflected on the supportive nature of her island home, saying, "Everyone knows everyone and if something really good happens, or really bad happens, people will celebrate with you or pick you up again. Honestly, it's phenomenal."

More than money

Nataliya Nedkova, a 42-year-old resident of Stornoway, won £30,000 in the People's Postcode Lottery last year. She described the experience as "massive and quite surreal," emphasizing that the memories of the win would stay with her long after the money is gone.

Congratulations from the Postcode Lottery

Danyl Johnson, a Postcode Lottery ambassador, congratulated the 15 winners from Benbecula, praising them for their good fortune. Johnson reminisced about his visits to the Outer Hebrides, where he had the pleasure of surprising previous winners in North Uist, Berneray, and Stornoway.
