System Glitch Prevents Redemption of Nectar Points for Festive Feasts

Sainsbury's shoppers were left fuming after a system error spoiled their Christmas food shopping experience. Many customers were unable to redeem their Nectar points to pay for their massive food hauls, causing frustration and disappointment.

Customers Counted on Vouchers to Cover the Cost

Customers had spent the year amassing vouchers worth hundreds of pounds in preparation for their Christmas feasts. However, when they attempted to use these vouchers, they were met with error messages and were unable to complete their purchases. This left many customers feeling like they were throwing money away due to a problem that wasn't their fault.

Social Media Venting

Customers took to social media to express their frustrations with the system error. One user claimed that they had redeemed £185 worth of Nectar points but had not received the credit. Another customer complained that their entire Christmas shop was charged to their debit card due to an error with the system. The widespread nature of the problem led some customers to threaten to boycott Sainsbury's in the future.

Technical Issues Affecting a Small Proportion of Customers

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's acknowledged the technical issues affecting a small number of customers and urged those affected to contact their careline team for assistance. The supermarket is working to fix the problem as quickly as possible and apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

Collecting Nectar Points

Sainsbury's customers collect Nectar points when purchasing certain products or goods, both in-store and online. Each £1 spent earns one loyalty point, and customers can also earn points on fuel purchased at Sainsbury's petrol stations. Points can be collected at partner locations such as Esso and eBay. Customers can register and download an e-Nectar card through the smartphone app.

Christmas Opening Hours

Sainsbury's opening hours will vary over the Christmas and New Year period. Customers are advised to check the store locator tool on the Sainsbury's website for specific opening and closing times. Most stores will be closed on Christmas Day, and reduced hours may be in effect on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day. Normal hours are expected between December 27 and December 30, with potentially reduced hours on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
