Moving In
A Scottish couple, Paddy Harper, 30, and his girlfriend, were thrilled to move into their new £300,000 home in Bellway's Summerville Gardens estate in August 2022.
A Nightmare Unfolds
However, their joy turned to despair as poor drainage caused their back garden to flood, turning it into a 'swamp' from 2023 to 2024. Water from a farmer's field behind their home ran down a hill, creating a constant stream through their property.
Struggling for Solutions
Paddy claims that despite raising the issue with Bellway, they were blamed for not raking leaves and faced excuses instead of solutions. The couple felt abandoned by the company and trapped in a home with serious flood risks.
Bellway's Response
Bellway acknowledged the high rainfall in the UK and attributed the flooding to excess rain runoff from fields behind the property. They stated that efforts were underway to address the issue by connecting a drainage ditch to a positive drainage system once weather conditions allowed.
Homeowners Speak Out
Paddy expressed frustration at the situation, feeling like they were living in a 'swamp' and unable to enjoy their backyard. The couple considered selling the house but feared financial repercussions due to the flooding problems.
Despite promises from Bellway to resolve the issue, the couple felt neglected and left to deal with the consequences of poor drainage on their own.
