Christmas shoppers were left shocked when they opened their Cadbury Heroes tubs and discovered a surprising change. Instead of the usual bite-size Twirls, the tubs contained normal-size Twirl bars. Many took to social media to express their confusion and disappointment.

Supply Chain Issues Lead to Substitution

A spokesperson for Cadbury explained that due to supply chain issues, a small percentage of Heroes tubs were temporarily substituted with the slightly larger Cadbury Twirl 21g. They assured customers that the amount of chocolate in each tub remained the same.

Price Increase and Tub Size Reduction

This incident comes after Cadbury faced supply chain issues earlier this year with their Flake products. Additionally, Christmas chocolate tubs, including Heroes and Roses, have seen a reduction in size and an increase in price. The 600g tubs, which are currently priced at £5 in major supermarkets, were £4 last year. Asda sells the same tubs for £4.50.

Shrinkflation and Its Impact on Shoppers

The reduction in tub size without a corresponding decrease in price is known as shrinkflation. This tactic allows food manufacturers to offset increased costs without raising the price for consumers. While shoppers won't pay more, they will receive less product.
