IT is the longest day of the year – so why not be a bright spark and use those extra daylight hours to set up great savings?
Just follow my simple tips and in no time you will be quids in.
Auto-pilot: Consider setting up an automatic transfer to a savings account to help ramp up your savings.
You could aim to start this from your next payday. Plus, by timing it this way, the money will go out of your current account before you are even aware it was there.
In for a penny: I’m a big fan of the Monzo card, and app. When you spend money, Monzo rounds up the price to the next pound and puts the remainder in a savings account.
For example, if I bought something for £1.80, it would make the spend £2 and put 20p in my rainy-day fund.
It is great as a boost to savings without having to think about it. Many banks, such as Lloyds and Halifax, offer a similar save-the-change option on their current accounts.
Keep the receipt: It could help you stash away extra pounds. Schemes such as HuYu let you upload receipts from supermarkets or take short surveys to earn stars. When you reach 500 you wll get £5.
Taking a picture of your receipt can be done in moments via the app, making it so easy to save extra money.
Save with Sun Savers: Those of you who are already registered should keep on banking theirs but, if you are not yet a Sun Saver, head to sunsavers.co.uk or download the free app.
You can start saving by entering the code from the bottom of today’s page.
Once you have entered 28 codes — they don’t have to be from consecutive days — you will get a free fiver to spend however you want. If you scan 28 codes every month, you can save an extra £60 per year.
