A young couple from Nottingham has made a bold move and traded their one-bedroom apartment for a narrow boat, and they're reaping the financial benefits.
Saving Thousands on Living Costs
Georgia Hunt and Kieran Pearson took the plunge and decided to live life on the water, and it has paid off tremendously in terms of savings. Despite not having heating or a bath, the couple manages to save an incredible £1,160 per month.
Amazing Free Perks
While the boat may lack some luxuries, it comes with its own set of amazing benefits. For instance, the couple has access to a washing machine for free, thanks to mooring costs. Additionally, they have no water bills as it is covered in their mooring charge. Plus, they use solar panels for electricity, resulting in significantly lower monthly electric bills.
A Few Extra Costs
Although the boat offers numerous money-saving advantages, there are some extra costs to consider. The couple has to pay for firewood and mooring costs, which can range from £3,000 to £15,000 per year.
A Unique Social Life
The decision to live on a boat hasn't only been about saving money for Georgia and Kieran. They've also embraced a unique social life. Their marina has designated gardens for each mooring spot, allowing them to host barbecues and socialize with friends. They've even thrown a boat party, taking 12 friends on a pub crawl around Birmingham city center.
Freedom to Explore the UK
One of the best things about living on a boat, according to Georgia, is the freedom it offers. They can move anywhere they please, allowing them to see more of the UK than ever before. Their favorite journey so far was the four-day trip from Nottingham to Birmingham.
