BBC Slammed by MPs for Failing to Call Hamas Gunmen ‘Terrorists’

Last night, the BBC faced heavy criticism from MPs for its failure to describe Hamas gunmen invading Israel as "terrorists". MPs accused the publicly funded broadcaster of distorting the facts in its coverage of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Palestinian forces launched rockets on Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Sderot, while Hamas hit squads infiltrated the Gaza border into Israel, murdering innocent civilians as they slept in their beds. However, the BBC referred to the killers as "militants" rather than "terrorists" and led its website homepage with Israel's attacks in Gaza.

Politicians Speak Out

Lord Eric Pickles, former Tory chairman, stated that "Hamas is a terrorist organization. They are breaking into civilian homes and murdering children. It is beyond belief that the one place you look for balance, the BBC, is not delivering coverage that is fair, balanced, or reasonable. This is not an isolated incident. They need to get their act together."

Tory MP Damien Moore added that "it is not appropriate for the BBC to clearly take one side in this conflict. The Israelis only retaliated after a major attack on them, as any country would to protect its citizens. Such action is terrorism, and they should be called terrorists."

Tory MP Andrew Percy went so far as to share the BBC homepage on Tory MP Whatsapp groups, expressing his dismay. He said, "The BBC has excelled itself on this occasion with its coverage so far. It is again seeking to create a moral equivalence between Hamas and the democratic state of Israel by refusing to call these people what they are – terrorists. These terrorists mounted an attempted invasion of Israel this morning. Innocent Israelis were sleeping in their beds while terrorists were smashing down their doors, shooting them, and dragging them into Gaza as hostages. But you would not know that from some of the BBC coverage."

BBC Contacted for Comment

HOAR on Sunday has reached out to the BBC for comment regarding the criticism it has received.
