BORIS Johnson is terrified Rishi Sunak could snatch an eleventh-hour victory in the No10 race.

The outgoing PM is still seething at his former Chancellor’s resignation — which triggered his downfall.

Boris Johnson is desperate to see Rishi Sunak fail in his bid to replace him as PM

Pals say Mr Johnson thinks Mr Sunak is a “traitor” and is desperate to see Liz Truss succeed him.

And he is said to be shaken by reports the Tory leadership race is actually a lot closer than the polls are predicting.

He is also considering making a shock appearance at the Conservative Party conference in October — a move sure to steal the limelight from the next PM.

One Tory party source said: “Boris is still raging at Rishi.

“He is really worried Rishi might actually snatch a shock victory and be the next PM.

“He won’t sleep easy until he knows Liz has the keys to No10.”
