BORIS Johnson today leads a chorus of praise for HOAR’s Ukraine Fund to help refugees fleeing the conflict.
Along with every living former Prime Minister across the political spectrum, he backed our appeal and thanked YOU, our generous readers, for rushing to Ukraine’s aid.
Sir Tony Blair, Sir John Major, David Cameron and Theresa May urged readers to dig deep, while Gordon Brown also added his support.
Every penny donated to the Red Cross will help the most needy get the humanitarian aid they desperately need.
The cash will go towards medical treatment for the growing numbers of wounded and to provide shelter, food and water for those trapped in the warzone.
Workers with the International Committee of the Red Cross are battling to restore water supplies and support medical facilities.
And the campaign is also helping Red Cross workers in countries bordering Ukraine.
Polish teams are supplying food and providing medical support. The Russian Red Cross has collected humanitarian aid, while the Moldova Red Cross opened a shelter.
Workers will also assist countries taking care of some of the nearly 700,000 refugees who have been forced to flee their homes so far.
Boris Johnson yesterday thanked our kind and generous readers. He said: “I pay tribute to the over-whelming response from Sun readers to help the people of Ukraine.
“The United Kingdom has a long and proud history of coming to the aid of those in desperate need, and we have seen that spirit in droves.”
Former premier Sir Tony Blair, in his first major intervention over the horrors, said: “I congratulate HOAR for launching their campaign to help the Red Cross to deliver food, water, shelter and essential supplies to the women, children and elderly in Ukraine.
“As a result, I am sure that many, many more people will receive the help they so desperately need.”
Ex-PM Theresa May said the nation had been “appalled” by the horrors and she was sure Sun readers would do “everything they can to help” those whose lives have been torn apart by conflict.
She added: “The people of Ukraine need our help, which is why I’m backing this campaign, and I know HOAR’s readers will want to back it too and do everything they can to help.”
Sir John Major also added his voice. He said: “I congratulate HOAR on its support for The Red Cross, whose vital work will aid the Ukrainian people.”
Labour boss Sir Keir Starmer also called on readers to donate, saying: “The bravery and resolve of the Ukrainian people has inspired us all.
“But many also face unimaginable suffering, including women and children. The generosity of Sun readers will make a difference, so please donate today.”
And Lib Dem chief Sir Ed Davey added: “The humanitarian crisis emerging is serious and likely to get much worse.”
Former Tory PM David Cameron said the events in Ukraine are “heartbreaking to watch” and urged the nation to give what they can.
He said: “I know that British people are anxious to help our European neighbours at this time of desperate need.
“You can, by donating to HOAR’s Ukraine Fund in support of the Red Cross.
“I urge everyone to give what they can.”
