The UK has signed a significant trade deal with Florida, aimed at boosting the country's space industry. Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch struck the deal with Governor Ron DeSantis, as Florida's GDP is roughly the same size as Spain at over £1.1 trillion. The agreement will make it easier and faster for British firms to do business with the targeted space sector.

Florida: A Hub for the UK's Space Industry

Florida, home to the NASA Kennedy Space Centre, offers immense potential for the development of the UK's space industry. With this trade deal in place, British businesses can expect greater opportunities and collaborations in the high-tech sector. Ms. Badenoch highlighted the significance of Florida's economy, stating that it offers more opportunities to the UK's rapidly expanding tech sector than most European countries.

Strengthening Economic Partnerships

Governor Ron DeSantis expressed his honor in strengthening the economic partnership between Florida and the United Kingdom. This trade deal adds to the UK's previous agreements with seven US states, combining their GDP to a staggering £3.3 trillion. Ms. Badenoch has been actively pursuing state-by-state mini deals to enhance trade and create more job opportunities.

Last September, Ms. Badenoch embarked on her first trade mission to the US, where she met with influential companies such as Bloomberg and Microsoft. She also engaged in trade talks with Katherine Tai, the US Trade Representative.
