MORE than nine tons of grub was binned in six months — by the food ministry.

It was dumped as the Government was under fire for rejecting footballer Marcus Rashford’s plea to help hungry children.

Offices at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs produced 9.4 tons of food waste in the year to June, Freedom of Information data showed.

Labour’s former leader Jeremy Corbyn said: “What a disgusting waste of food by Defra.

”And this at the same time the Government denied children the right to free school meals over the summer holidays.

“This shows its warped sense of priorities.”

London Green Party councillor Caroline Russell said: “The Government can organise dumping tons of food but claims it can’t feed in-need children.”

Rashford, 23, lobbied for vouchers to children who got means-tested free school meals, so they could eat in the summer break.
