Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron is advocating for the allocation of £278 billion in frozen Russian assets to aid in the reconstruction of war-torn Ukraine. Lord Cameron is also urging the United States to approve an £88 billion aid package, emphasizing the need for a joint approach in utilizing the frozen funds, which have been held since Russia's invasion in 2022.

Support for Ukraine Reconstruction

Lord Cameron believes that it is time to not only freeze the assets but also to spend some of the funds to support Ukraine's recovery efforts. He argues that there are strong reasons to consider this approach. Failure by the European Union and the United States to provide assistance to Kyiv would be seen as a "Christmas present" for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Call for US Aid Package

During his recent visit to the United States, Lord Cameron appealed to Congress to approve a new military aid deal worth £88 billion. The aim is to provide further support to Ukraine in its efforts to defend itself.

Post-Brexit Trade Success

Lord Cameron also expressed his satisfaction with Britain's post-Brexit trade achievements. He highlighted the country's participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which includes Australia, Canada, Japan, and eight other states. Lord Cameron emphasized the positive impact of these trade deals on Brexit Britain's exports and the potential for the UK to become a significant player in the emerging bloc.

Lord Cameron stated, "While currently it’s a small percentage of our trade, these are some of the fastest growing economies in the world. I think we can do that consistent with our obligations under the withdrawal agreement and we can make that work and that’s what we should be doing."
