Triple lock protection

Jeremy Hunt has pledged that the pensions triple lock, ensuring pension uprating every year, will be included in the Tory manifesto for the full five years of the next Parliament. This move comes after Sir Keir Starmer's uncertainty on the matter.

Labour's stance

Sir Keir Starmer did not confirm whether the triple lock would be part of Labour's pledges when questioned. He emphasized the importance of respecting pensioners who have retired and cannot work.

State pension increase

The triple lock guarantees that the state pension increases annually by either wage growth, inflation, or a minimum of 2.5 per cent, whichever is highest. Labour has stated their commitment to retaining this triple lock.

Compensation for 1950s women

Jeremy Hunt did not promise compensation for women born in the 1950s affected by changes to the state pension age. He highlighted the complexity of the issue and the need to ensure fairness, as compensation would come from taxpayers.
