Former Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell and ex-Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn march with activists sympathetic to Hamas

Labour MP John McDonnell has sparked fury after he joined a pro-Palestine march on Armistice Day. McDonnell, along with former Party leader Jeremy Corbyn and four other Labour MPs, marched alongside activists who have expressed sympathy for Hamas, a group with a history of violence.

Anti-Semitism Concerns Raised

Among the activists was Ziad El Aloul, a Palestinian activist who has shared a Hamas-made video showing gunmen paragliding into battle and a picture of a fighter descending on Jerusalem's al-Aqsa mosque. These posts have raised concerns about anti-Semitism and support for violence.

Call for Action from Party Leaders

One Labour MP has called for Sir Keir Starmer to remove the whip from McDonnell, as he did with Corbyn, stating that it is unforgivable to associate with individuals who express anti-Semitism. Tory MP Mark Jenkinson also criticized Labour, saying that leading these marches is incompatible with being a serious political party.

Debate within the Party

While some party insiders believe that MPs should be free to join the march and express their support for a ceasefire, others argue that discipline within the party has crumbled. Nearly 20 shadow ministers have openly called for a ceasefire in Gaza, putting pressure on Sir Keir to take a stronger stance.

It remains to be seen whether any disciplinary action will be taken against the MPs involved.
