The Labour Party, led by Sir Keir Starmer, has seen a significant boost in its funding with £6 million in private donations. This influx, which occurred from April to June, marks one of the party's best ever fundraising periods. The majority of the funds came from just two individuals.

Donor Contributions

Long-standing donor Lord Sainsbury contributed £3 million, while former Autoglass boss Gary Lubner donated £2.3 million. In addition to these private donors, Labour also received a total of £739,000 from unions, including GMB and Unison, despite their strikes impacting the public sector.

Overall Fundraising Success

Labour raised a total of £7.5 million during the three-month period, showcasing the party's financial growth. Although the Tories raised £9.9 million in donations during the same timeframe, with a significant portion coming from health entrepreneur Frank Hester, Labour's fundraising success is remarkable.

Other Political Party Donations

The Liberal Democrats secured £1.5 million in donations, including £25,000 from former leader Sir Nick Clegg. While these figures demonstrate support for the party, Labour's £6 million in donations stands out.

Labour's Response

A spokesperson for the Labour Party commented on their financial success, stating, "Our finances have gone from strength to strength this year."
