PENNY Mordaunt is backing Liz Truss to be the next PM.

The defeated Tory candidate will introduce the current frontrunner at a Conservative hustings tonight in Exeter.

Penny Mordaunt will tonight come out for Liz Truss

The trade minister and ex-defence secretary was voted out of the contest a week and a half ago after failing to secure enough votes to get through to the final two.

Rishi Sunak and Ms Truss are now going head-to-head for the final battle, fighting for every member vote.

Last week police were probing death threats sent to her.

She bolstered her security after thugs threatened to “shoot her in the head” and “kill her family” if she didn’t quit as an MP.

Ms Mordaunt said: “I’m very grateful for all the good wishes and support.”
