Germany Explores Third Country Asylum Processing

Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, has expressed his support for Germany's consideration of a migration plan inspired by Rwanda. Chancellor Olaf Scholz has pledged to examine the possibility of removing asylum seekers to a third country. This move has been welcomed by Downing Street, who sees it as a recognition of the need for international solutions to the global challenge of migration.

Seeking Global Solutions to Migration

The PM's spokesman emphasized the importance of global solutions and working with like-minded countries to tackle illegal immigration and disrupt the activities of organized gangs. Mr. Scholz's decision to explore proposals for third country asylum processing comes in response to mounting pressure to address the issue of illegal immigration effectively.

Supreme Court Judgment Awaited

While Mr. Sunak eagerly awaits a Supreme Court judgment on whether he can proceed with the first flights to Kigali, he may still face resistance from European judges who opposed a previous attempt last year. Nevertheless, a senior Conservative source sees this as a positive development, stating that the EU is following the UK's lead in taking action to stop illegal immigration.

Exploring the Possibility of Safe Third Countries

German social scientist Gerald Knaus suggests that Britain and European countries could collaborate to offer African countries the opportunity to become safe third countries and provide credible asylum processing that meets international standards. This approach aims to save lives and put an end to the dangerous irregular migration witnessed in the Mediterranean region over the past decade.

Priority on Stopping Small Boats

For Mr. Sunak, preventing small boat crossings is a top priority. He stated that progress is being made in addressing this issue and ensuring that the democratically elected government of the UK takes control of the situation.
