Rishi Sunak criticizes harassment of MPs at their homes

Rishi Sunak has strongly criticized pro-Palestine protesters for surrounding the home of Sir Keir Starmer, stating that no MP should be subjected to harassment in their own residence. The Prime Minister's comments come after activists linked to Just Stop Oil staged a demonstration outside the Labour leader's home in North London.

Activists arrested after protest at Sir Keir's residence

Three people were arrested by Scotland Yard during the protest, where activists from Youth Demand placed children's shoes leading up to Sir Keir's front door. The group is advocating for a two-way arms embargo in response to the conflict in Gaza and has been involved in similar actions at other pro-Palestine demonstrations.

Strong condemnation from government officials

Home Secretary James Cleverly and Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan have both condemned the actions of the protesters, emphasizing that politicians and their families should not be subjected to intimidation in their private homes. The authorities have made arrests under the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 to address the harassment.

Labour's response and Government's position on arms exports

Labour has called for a suspension of arms exports to Israel if it is found to have breached international law, but is awaiting legal guidance before endorsing an embargo. Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron, speaking in Washington DC, stated that the Government's stance on arms export licenses to Israel remains unchanged following a recent review.
