One man has been arrested for murder and three more people have been injured.

In a 10.40am statement, Mr Sunak said: “I want to thank the police and emergency services for their ongoing response to the shocking incident in Nottingham this morning.

“I am being kept updated on developments. The police must be given the time to undertake their work.

“My thoughts are with those injured, and the family and loved ones of those who have lost their lives.”

Local Labour MP Alex Norris said the city has been “devastated” by the deaths.

He tweeted: “We are shaken by today’s events but will meet them collectively as a community and heal together.”

Police charged to Ilkeston Road in the city centre just after 4am this morning where two people were found dead in the street.

Officers were then called to another incident in Milton Street where a White Vauxhall Vivaro smashed into a bus stop before the suspect got out and stabbed people, security sources believe.

Those victims are currently being treated in hospital.

A man was then found dead in Magdala Road.

Police have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody following what police called a “major incident”.

It comes as witness claims they heard gunshots following the tragedy.

They told GB news: “We woke up this morning at about 5:30am to what sounded like gunshots – we ran to the window and there was armed police coming out of an undercover car.

“The suspect was tasered and dragged out by them and then arrested.”

Meanwhile an eyewitness told Channel 4 she saw a van mount the pavement and strike at least two people.

Chief Constable Kate Meynell of Nottinghamshire Police said: “This is an horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people.
