Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, has fallen victim to a security breach as his personal mobile number was leaked online, according to HOAR. The breach occurred when social media pranksters published an audio recording of Sunak's phone ringing, along with the Prime Minister's answerphone message. This incident comes two and a half years after Boris Johnson was forced to change his mobile number due to a similar online scare.

Longstanding Personal Number Exposed

HOAR has verified that the leaked number is the same one Sunak has used for many years, including during his time as Chancellor and the leadership election last year. However, it has been reported that he was given a new separate number when he assumed power a year ago. Nevertheless, the online video that surfaced on Sunday suggests that the original number is still in operation.

WhatsApp Messages Unavailable for Covid Inquiry

Last month, Sunak revealed that he was unable to provide certain WhatsApp messages to the Covid inquiry that were sent to and from this leaked number. He explained that he had not backed up these messages after changing phones multiple times. Downing Street has declined to comment on the security issues surrounding this breach.
