MP Luke Evans Targeted in Honeytrap

Conservative MP Luke Evans has come forward as the second Tory MP to reveal he was targeted in a honeytrap scheme.

Unsolicited Explicit Messages

Evans disclosed that he received unsolicited explicit messages on WhatsApp, including a picture of a naked woman without any prior warning.

He further mentioned receiving a second message of a similar nature ten days later.

Immediate Reporting to Authorities

The Leicestershire MP promptly reported the incident to the police and party whips as soon as it occurred.

He stated, "I was a victim of cyberflashing and malicious communications, and blew the whistle by reporting it to the police and the parliamentary authorities."

Support from Colleagues

Following the revelation, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt expressed support for Evans, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity awareness for all MPs and the general public.

Lessons Learned

Reflecting on the incident involving fellow Tory MP William Wragg, Hunt highlighted the necessity for caution in cybersecurity practices, urging vigilance among parliamentarians and the public alike.

Wragg had previously apologized for sending naked images of himself on the dating app Grindr, leading to further complications.
