Shocking Lack of Checks

A report by the watchdog reveals that 275 immigrants were granted visas to work in a care home that did not even exist due to a shocking lack of checks by Home Office officials.

Exploitation Risk and Illegal Workers

The rush to fill staffing shortages with foreign labor has led to a system that leaves many low-skilled workers at risk of exploitation. Migrants with care visas were found working illegally at a quarter of all homes visited.

Inadequate Measures and Fake Claims

The report, written by David Neal, who was dismissed by Home Secretary James Cleverly, highlights the "totally inadequate" measures to identify fake claims. One case involved 1,234 visas granted to a firm with only four employees.

Department Response

The Home Office stated that the 275 sponsorships for the non-existent care home were granted using false information and evidence in the name of a real care home without its knowledge. The rush to fill care home shortages coincided with the strain of the Russian invasion.

Tightened Restrictions

Following these revelations, Home Secretary James Cleverly has implemented stricter restrictions on care workers to ensure all providers are registered with the Care Quality Commission.
