Home Secretary Suella Braverman is set to confront Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley today regarding the police's handling of recent protests where demonstrators chanted 'jihad' and displayed antisemitic signs. The Metropolitan Police faced criticism after live tweeting the events and suggesting that the term 'jihad' has multiple meanings. Home Office minister Robert Jenrick condemned the chanting, calling it "completely unacceptable" and urging the police to take action. However, the Met responded on social media, stating that no offenses were identified in a video of the protest.

Protesters' Actions Spark Controversy

During the Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain protest, a video was posted on social media showing a man chanting "Jihad" while standing near the main speaker. The Met, in their response on social media, explained that the word "jihad" has different interpretations and that no offenses were identified in the specific video filmed in central London. Despite this, the police have spoken to the individual involved to discourage any future instances of similar chanting.

Home Secretary to Confront Met Commissioner

Suella Braverman is scheduled to meet with Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley to discuss the police's response to the incidents that occurred over the weekend. A source close to Braverman expressed the Home Secretary's concern about incitement to hatred or violence on the streets of Britain and emphasized the need for the police to crack down on lawbreakers. Transport Secretary Mark Harper also voiced his support for taking decisive action and stated that the full force of the law should be employed.

Meanwhile, a video of a Tube driver leading passengers in chants of "Free Palestine" has caused further outrage. Transport for London officials, however, claimed they were unaware of the driver's identity and are under pressure to dismiss the individual responsible.
