Home Secretary seeks to reduce arrivals with higher salary threshold

The UK's Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, is planning to increase the salary threshold for skilled migrant workers in an effort to cut arrivals. Currently, a visa is issued if the applicant's salary is at least £26,200. Braverman wants to raise this threshold, with an announcement potentially coming before the release of official immigration figures next month.

Government acknowledges flaws in points-based system

A source from the Home Office stated that the current points-based system for immigration has not operated as promised in the government's manifesto. Prime Minister Boris Johnson recognizes that net migration is too high and has been collaborating closely with the Home Office to address the issue.

Crackdown on dependants of unskilled workers

In addition to increasing the salary threshold, Braverman is considering preventing dependants of unskilled workers, including seasonal staff, from settling in the UK. This follows her previous decision to bar most foreign students from bringing in their dependants and to clamp down on those attempting to switch from education to work.

Experts predict post-Brexit migration levels

Experts from the University of Oxford and London School of Economics predict that migration levels will range between 250,000 and 350,000 per year until the end of the decade. These estimates surpass the levels seen before the UK's withdrawal from the European Union.
