BBC journalist Reeta Chakrabarti has been appearing on our TV screens for years, climbing from strength to strength to become a news anchor.
She is a household name and the live reporter on the ground for the BBC’s coverage of the Russian-Ukraine war.
Who is Reeta Chakrabarti?
Reeta Chakrabarti, 57, is a British journalist, newsreader and correspondent for BBC News.
Born in Ealing on December 12, 1964, to an Indian-Bengali family.
They moved to Birmingham where Reeta grew up.
She studied in England, France and India and attended Oxford University, graduating in 1988.
In 1994, Chakrabarti became a reporter for the Breakfast Programme on the newly launched BBC Radio 5 Live.
She later became a general news correspondent working on television as well as radio.
In 1997, she became the BBC Community Affairs correspondent, before securing her role as political correspondent for the BBC in 1999.
In May 2014 she was appointed as news presenter on BBC One and the BBC News Channel.
She is also the Chancellor for York St John University and was a judge for the Costa Book of the Year prize in 2021.
Is Reeta Chakrabarti married?
Reeta is married to Paul Hamilton, the pair live together in North London.
Paul is a Professor of English at Queen Mary University.
He mainly researches Enlightenment and Romantic era texts but has written on critical theory and modernism too.
During her time at Oxford, Reeta studied English and is known to love Romantic poet John Keats.
Does Reeta Chakrabarti have children?
Together, Reeta and Paul have three children – a daughter and two sons.
Roxy appeared with her mother on the Children in Need episode of Bargain Hunt in 2021.
They played as the blue team against comedian John Thomson and his daughter Olivia.
